Youth Bunge to be held in Nakuru as MCAs seek to nurture future leaders

Spearheaded by Hassan Duale, a Member of County Assembly (MCA) from Nakuru County, the Youth Bunge initiative is a mock parliamentary session tailored for young people.

It is set to take place on May 12, 2025 in Nakuru County and will bring together youth leaders from Narok, Kajiado, Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru, Laikipia, Samburu, and Baringo counties.

Duale expressed his excitement about hosting the event in Nakuru, noting that this will be the first time the county hosts such a youth-led parliamentary simulation.

"I'm part of the Kenya Young Members of County Assemblies (KYMCA), and I am so glad to host my colleagues in Nakuru for the Youth Bunge. It will be a chance for youth leaders to gain firsthand experience in governance. It also unites the youth and encourages them to aspire for leadership positions because we want to see more young people contesting in 2027," Duale said in a press address. 

During the Youth Bunge, participants will elect their own Speaker, Majority Whip, and other key positions—just like in actual county assemblies. They will engage in debates on topical issues affecting the youth and simulate the legislative process with professionalism and accuracy.

According to Duale, the event aims at instilling leadership values among young people and to encourage political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We want young people to experience the decision-making process and understand that leadership is not just about titles. It’s about responsibility, service, and unity,” he added.

The initiative also seeks to bridge the gap between aspirational youth leaders and the realities of public service, providing a platform to learn, network, and challenge each other constructively.

Duale emphasized the significance of Nakuru hosting this landmark youth engagement event:

“It’s historic. Nakuru has always been a political powerhouse, and now we are giving our young people a front-row seat to understand and participate in leadership at a meaningful level.”
