Kiambu Aquatics Association today held their swimming championships for the minnows at the Potterhouse school in Runda.

The event which acts as the start point for the Olympic pathway had children participating aged between 3-9 years old of age.

The event which marked the last event of the season 2025/2026 in the championships attracted 14 different teams across various counties including Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado and Nyeri.

The event also aimed to get this season’s winner with three clubs leading the season. Orca swimming club, Aqua sharks and snook stand first, second and third positions respectively in the current standings.

The event also had various awards for the champions and targets to have the team that will represent Kiambu county in the national competition as said by the Kiambu Aquatic Association Public relations officer Nesmus Mbati.

“This is the first league in Kenyan history that has cash awards which is being sponsored by Genesis limited, number one in the league will get KSh.50,000 number two will be awarded KSh.25000 and the third position will get KSh.15000.

Orca Swim Club emerged as the overall winners with 39 gold, 27 silver and 17 bronze medals. Aqua Shark Fin Swim Club were first runners-up with 20 gold, 27 silver, and 30 bronze medals. Hosts Potterhouse School, Runda were second runners-up with 16 gold, 11 silver, and 17 bronze medals.

In the men’s category, Orca dominated with 17 gold, 11 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Potterhouse closely followed with 11 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Finishing in the top three was Aqua Shark Fin with 7 gold, 19 silver, and 21 bronze medals.

Orca Swim Club again took the lead in the women’s category with 19 gold, 14 silver, and 12 bronze medals. In second position was Aqua Shark Fin with 13 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Finishing in third position was Potterhouse School with 5 gold, 4 silver, and 11 bronze medals.

In the 5-year girls’ age category, Amana Maina from Potterhouse School emerged the best to win the individual trophy with 40 points, while in the 7-year boys’ age category, Jabali Kemucie from Milfield School, Runda was the best in his age category with 47 points.

Sheena Kinyanjui from Otters Swim Club won the gold medal in the girls’ 8-year category 25m freestyle event in a time of 23.10s. The silver medalist was Carla Corfo, while the bronze medalist was Lincy Mbugua.

Kojo Boaten from Iron Fins Swim Club took first position in the boys’ 5-year category in a time of 31.64s. Marcel Ndagijimana from Potterhouse School was second, while Mathew Sarani, also from Potterhouse, came in third.
