Women protest release of rape suspect in Nandi

Hundreds of women in Nandi County staged a demonstration to protest against what they say is an increase in rape cases in the county.

The locals were also protesting the release of an assistant chief who is alleged to have defiled a minor in Bondeni village Nandi hills Sub County.

Philip Bett an assistant chief in Cheptabach Sub Location was on Monday arraigned at the Kapsabet Law Courts and charged with defiling a 12-year-old girl.

He pleaded not guilty and was released on Ksh.200, 000 bond.

Led by Nandi County Deputy Governor Yulita Mitei, Nandi  Women Rep Tecla Tum and health CEC Ruth Koech ,the women called on the courts to stop being lenient and deal firmly with sexual offenders.
