The Supreme Court on Monday brought an end to a question of whether William Ruto was duly elected as president in a declaration that was made by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on August 15.
Ruto's opponent Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua had petitioned the court to declare Ruto's win as null and void, electoral irregularities.
In a statement after the court ruling, Raila expressed disappointment with the decision to uphold Ruto's win.
"We have always stood for the the rule of law and the constitution. In this regard, we respect the opinion of the court although we vehemently disagree with their decision today," Odinga said in part.
“Our lawyers proffered irrefutable evidence and the facts were on our side, unfortunately the judges saw it otherwise,” he added.
On her part, Martha Karua also took to social media to welcome the decision, but not fully.
“The court has spoken. I respect but disagree with the findings,” Karua wrote.
