Wiper rejects coalition rumors with President Ruto, vows independent 2027 presidential run

In an official public statement issued on September 28, 2026, WPF Spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru declared that the party has no intentions of negotiating a political arrangement with the Kenya Kwanza administration, maintaining an uncompromising stance toward the head of state.

"Let it be stated without ambiguity; the Wiper Patriotic Front has no dealings, no understanding, and no intention of working with Ruto," the statement read. 

"He remains a man under whose watch our children were shot, abducted and tortured. Our path is independent, principled and irreversible. We shall only meet with Mr. Ruto at the ballot on 10th August 2027."

The party's statement comes amid heightened political realignments and intense rumor-mongering following public remarks by various political leaders. 

Speculation flared up following Kalonzo's weekend political tour in Western Kenya and Siaya, where comments on democratic processes and post-election stability were interpreted by some observers as a potential softening of his opposition stance. 

Former Deputy President and Democracy For the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua had also fueled political chatter by predicting imminent shifts among top opposition figures ahead of 2027.

In response to critics linking local infrastructure demands to government co-optation, the statement clarified Wiper’s push for major infrastructure projects in its Eastern stronghold - specifically pointing to the completion of the long-delayed Kibwezi–Kitui–Mwingi–Tseiikuru–Maua road.

The party emphasized that demanding regional development is a right tied to public taxation rather than political patronage, stating: "When the Wiper Patriotic Front calls for the completion of the... road and for equitable development across opposition regions, it is not seeking favours. It is demanding what rightfully belongs to the people, public taxes collected from Kenyans, not private largesse to be dispensed at the pleasure of any individual."

In conclusion, the party stressed Kalonzo's ideology, stating that his stance was still uncompromised as far as his political ambitions were concerned.

"There should be no confusion and no room for doubt. The course chosen by H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is clear, consistent and uncompromising. The Wiper party leader is keen on handing Mr. Ruto a WANTAM," the statement concluded.

Kalonzo Musyoka, a veteran diplomat and long-serving figure in Kenyan opposition politics, has been actively positioning himself as the primary contender to challenge President Ruto in 2027. 

Following the fragmentation and shifts within the broader opposition landscape over the past year, Kalonzo has been leading regional tours and political engagements to build a unified opposition alliance, recently rallying under the banner of the "Ukombozi Alliance."
