East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Winnie Odinga has declared her intention to contest for the Nairobi Senator position in the 2027 elections.

Winnie, speaking during the first death anniversary of her late father, Raila Odinga, said her political ambitions were no longer a secret.

The EALA MP said she would take over the Nairobi mantle as incumbent Edwin Sifuna seeks a higher post.

“Let it not be a rumor that as Edwin Sifuna searches for higher offices I see kuna space, kuna nafasi hapo Nairobi and that is why I have decided that I will stand for the senator of Nairobi county,” said Winnie.

She also added that her ambition is to have young people in leadership positions.

“Lakini siendi peke yangu, I am going with young people. I want young people of tis country to prepare to stand. You stand for governor, you stand for senate, MCA, MP because siendi peke yangu,” added Winnie.

Speaking of her late father, Winnie said Odinga championed for justice and equal opportunities for all Kenyans.

“Dad had a Kenyan dream he believed that wherever you were born, whatever your surname, whatever your community, you deserved the opportunity to live a decent life,” she said.

“Leo people have given up hope. It breaks my heart when I see some of you ulisoma, ukatuma applications ukafwatilia, ukafungua boiashara, ukakopa, ukafanya kazi, ukapiga kura, ukasubiri, ukaamini tena lakini maisha hayakusonga mbele,” added the MP.
