WhatsApp has introduced a feature that makes it easier to message yourself.

The Meta-owned messaging platform on Monday announced a feature, called 'Message Yourself', which essentially acts as a user's notepad to bookmark important information next to other WhatsApp chats.

Under the feature which has started rolling out globally, Android and iOS users will be able to send stuff like notes, reminders and links they wish to open later to themselves on WhatsApp.

How it works is that users will tap the 'create new chat' button, after which their contact will appear at the top of the contacts list.

By tapping their contact, WhatsApp will take them to the chat screen they can use to send messages to themselves.

Like regular chats, one will also be able to pin their chats to the top of the conversation list for quicker access.

Prior to this, WhatsApp users could only "chat themselves" by using the app’s ‘click to chat’ feature, sending messages to accounts that are no longer in use or through makeshift one-member WhatsApp groups.

WhatsApp's rivals Telegram and Slack have had similar features for some time now. For Telegram, the 'Saved Messages' feature lets users bookmark messages, notes, and links that can be accessed later from the top of the chats screen.

Slack on the other hand has 'Jot Something Down' options for users to send notes to themselves.
