After expiring chats, WhatsApp is introducing expiring groups.

Through an update under development on the WhatsApp Beta program, beta testers of WhatsApp's 2.23.8.11 version are set to receive expiring groups as an additional tool to save space.

WhatsApp Beta in a blog post on Tuesday said the update will be available in a future update of the app.

Beta is the program where select users are the first to try updated features and share feedback about developments on WhatsApp.

“Thanks to this feature, it will be possible to make certain WhatsApp groups expire on our end as users will be prompted to clean up the group when the chosen expiration date is reached,” read the announcement.

The Meta-owned platform is developing the feature for both Android and iOS users. Users will choose whether they want a group to expire after a day, week or month, depending on the purpose it was created for.

“We believe that the addition of this feature will offer an effective solution to a common problem where groups become disorganized and lose relevance over time,” the post added.

The update will also come in handy for storage management as users will be able to save space, particularly for groups created temporarily for specific events.

WhatsApp introduced disappearing messages to give users more privacy in their conversations and as a space-saving tool.

When turned on, one can set messages to automatically disappear 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days after the time they are sent, on both the sender’s device and the receiver’s.
