What we know about Sakaja’s University: Team University

After public scrutiny and a complaint filed against him at the IEBC tribunal, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has come out to state that he has a Bachelor of Science in Management degree conferred to him by Team University in Uganda.

In a replying affidavit to IEBC on Monday, Sakaja - who is aiming to climb to the Nairobi gubernatorial seat - said that he acquired his degree from Team University; a dulyregistered higher learning institution in Uganda.

“My qualifications and academic credentials are not in doubt having affirmed through a lawful process,” reads Sakaja’s papers in part.

The learning institution is not as popular in Kenya, and here is what we know about Sakaja’s Team University.

The private University located in Uganda’s capital Kampala was started in 2001. Then, the institution was named Team Business college.

It was founded by three Certified Public Accountants namely Mr. Tushabomwe David, Mr. Balikuddembe Joseph Kigongo and Mr. Rugaba Sam Kindyomunda.

The institution offered training in professional courses on accounting before it was granted authority to operate a private Specialists University.

It was licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) in Uganda in October 2010 and is located at Wood House, 446 Kabaka Anjagala Road, in Rubaga Division, in Kampala.

Although it started out as a business-related institution, Team University has further stretched its wings in academia and currently has 5 faculties.

• Faculty of Applied Sciences
• Faculty of Social Sciences and,
• Faculty of Education.

Through the faculties, the Institution offers certificate, diploma, degree and post graduate courses.
