National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has stepped up political mobilization efforts in Western Kenya, holding a series of engagements in Bungoma County aimed at consolidating support for President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Speaker on Saturday met teachers and union officials from across the county, in what his allies describe as a strategic outreach targeting influential grassroots opinion leaders.

The meeting followed earlier consultations with religious leaders and community elders in the region, as Wetang’ula intensifies a coordinated campaign to strengthen the Kenya Kwanza administration’s foothold in Western Kenya.

Addressing the educators, Wetang’ula reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reforming the education sector, pointing to recent teacher recruitment drives as evidence of progress under the administration.

“Teachers are the heartbeat of our community. When you speak, the village listens. By aligning with President Ruto, we are ensuring that the stability and growth we see today continue for the benefit of our children,” he said.

Political observers view the focus on teachers as a calculated move, noting their influence within communities as trusted advisors at the household level.

Wetang’ula’s Bungoma tour comes days after a visit to Nyanza counties of Homa Bay and Migori, regions traditionally considered opposition strongholds, where he received a notable reception from local leaders and residents.

The Speaker, who has played a key role in steering government legislation in the National Assembly, is increasingly emerging as a central figure in the administration’s political strategy.

Analysts say his ongoing engagements signal a broader plan by the Kenya Kwanza coalition to solidify support bases across regions as early political alignments for 2027 begin to take shape.
