Suba South Member of Parliament Caroli Omondi has moved to
dispel the notion that the Linda Mwananchi political formation is a
Luo-dominated outfit, insisting that the coalition draws membership from across
Kenya's ethnic divide.
Speaking on Ramogi TV on Tuesday evening, Omondi was emphatic:
"Linda Mwananchi is not only a Luo affair. It has over three-quarters of
ODM. We have all tribes in this formation."
The MP said the coalition has its sights set on producing a
presidential candidate ahead of the next General Election, adding that its
broader mission was clear. "We want to protect what the late Raila Odinga
built over the years," he said.
Omondi also moved to set the record straight on speculation
surrounding former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's political direction.
"There is nowhere Rigathi Gachagua has said he is joining
Linda Mwananchi," he stated categorically.
On the question of the Jaramogi family and the wing associated
with Oburu Oginga, Omondi said he harboured no personal ill will.
"I have no problem with Oburu Oginga and the Jaramogi
family. I have a good relationship with that family," he said. However, he
was candid about the political rivalry at play.
"That wing wants power, and we also want power. Working
the way they are working will only take the Luo community to the opposition,"
said the MP.
The legislator concluded with a broader warning about the
nature of Nairobi politics. "Politics done here in Nairobi will only work
when communities work together, and no one can go alone," he said.
