Former Transport and Infrastructure Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Wavinya Ndeti has won the Machakos gubernatorial seat.

Under a Wiper Party ticket, Ms. Ndeti garnered 226,609 votes, beating CCU’s Nzioka Waita (129,181) and Johnstone Muthama of UDA, who scored 37,980 votes.

Others in the race to succeed Governor Alfred Mutua were Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Francis Maliti who got 9,981 votes and Rose Mulwa who collected 4,424 votes.

Mr. Waita had on Friday conceded defeat, saying Ms. Ndeti’s tactics had out-shined his.

"I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate our incoming Governor for the County of Machakos Hon. Wavinya Ndeti. I wish her & her team every success as she takes over the reigns of the County 016," Waita wrote in a tweet on Friday evening. 

Machakos will have an all-female top county leadership after Agnes Kavindu of the Wiper Party successfully defended her senatorial seat with 155,883 votes.

Urbanus Mutunga Muthama, who vied on an ODM  ticket managed to get 65,606 votes.

In the Woman Representative race, Joyce Kamene Kasimbi has retained her seat, having bagged 253,106 votes out of the 413,875 votes cast.
