Bungoma High School aims to repeat their 2016 fairy-tale by winning a second Rugby 15s national title in this year’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Term One National School Games scheduled for April 7-11, 2026 in Kisumu.

This follows their victory in the western regional crown quest last month when they stunned Kakamega School 12-07 in a thrilling final staged at Chavakali High School.

Head coach Titus Wangila is confident his charges will slay the giants and ascend to the crown.

“The boys just want to win and prove that Bungoma is indeed a rugby powerhouse. We will give our all to make sure the title comes home,” Wangila told Citizen Digital.

Bungoma is looking to seize the opportunity after defending champions Vihiga High School relinquished the title after falling to Kakamega School in the regional semi-final.

Emerging as winners from the country’s rugby talent factory, “The Bulls,” as they are commonly called, are pumped for the national finals.

“The Western region is known by many to produce top talent in rugby and for you to emerge the winner means you defeated strong teams. That has given us extra motivation ahead of the competition,” Wangila noted.

The experienced tactician added that preparations have hit top gear with no fitness concerns in his camp ahead of the national fiesta.

“We have prepared well for the competition. I’m happy to report that we have no injuries in our camp and everyone is prepared for our opponents.”

The Bulls are expected to open their title quest on Tuesday against reigning East African champions Kisii School. Wangila termed the clash important for giving them a good test in their quest for the title.

“We know what champions are made of and drawing Kisii is an advantage because it will give us the bearing. The boys are prepared to unleash an extra gear and they just want to beat the champions.”

Bungoma is placed in pool ‘B’ alongside hosts Kisii, Rift Valley’s Menengai High School and Central region’s giants Mang’u.

Pool A consists of Nyanza region’s winners St. Mary’s Yala, Nairobi region's giants Upper Hill and Kwale Boys from the Coast.
