Wanga, ODM take broad-based gospel to Kisumu, drum up support for Ruto

Attending a fundraising drive at St. Francis Catholic Church Rangenya in Kisumu county, the leaders said they are backing Ruto because he has demonstrated the willingness to take development to every part of the country.

"The other group has no agenda, has no plan. We are supporting Ruto's re-election because he has stood with us and now we are seeing development in our region," Wanga said.

Turning to Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Wanga said they fell out because he decided to work with DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached as Deputy President.

"Kalonzo we know you always stood with Baba Raila Odinga and we loved you. But when you started working with Rigathi Gachagua, that is when you lost us," Wanga added. 

Together with leaders present, they urged Kisumu and indeed Luo Nyanza residents to rally their support behind Ruto, saying they are better off in his government than anywhere else. 

ODM entered into a broad-based agreement with Ruto's administration before its leader Raila Odinga passed away in October 2025.

This arrangement has since seen a split in the party, with its former Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna kicked out.

Sifuna has since joined the Linda Mwananchi movement where he has been identified as its presidential candidate. 

Sifuna's rise has been meteorological in a short period as he is now touted to vie for the presidency.

Meanwhile ODM maintains it's in government and will back Ruto's re-election.
