Wamoto backs KCB for national sevens title

Kibabii University rugby head coach Peter Wamoto has backed KCB RFC to clinch this year’s National Sevens Circuit title, citing the experience of their Shujaa players.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Wamoto said the players’ international experience has given KCB an edge and contributed to their strong results.

“They have a good number of players who play for the national sevens team who have brought their experience to the team, and that has helped them a lot in getting good results,” said Wamoto.

However, Wamoto has warned KCB against overlooking arch-rivals Kabras RFC, who beat them in the Driftwood Sevens final in Mombasa.

“Kabras have a very good team. If you saw them play in Mombasa, it’s a team with experience and consistency. They cannot be ignored when it comes to fighting for the title,” he added.

The youthful tactician also praised former Shujaa captain Andrew Amonde, saying his experience and influence have contributed to KCB’s impressive campaign.

“He is a legend in the game, an inspiration to many, and he loves the game. He has contributed big time to the growth of this KCB team,” said Wamoto.

The National Sevens Circuit heads to Embu next weekend before concluding with the Christie Sevens in Nairobi.
