Kwale County football champions Waa Boys Thursday booked a place in the semi-finals of the Coast Region Term Two Ball Games after winning their first two matches of the tournament, which is being hosted in Kwale County.

The hosts took the lead with a first-half goal before Mombasa's Khadija Secondary levelled the score early in the second half through a penalty. Waa responded with two quick goals to secure a 3-1 victory in the opening match played at Kwale Stadium.

They later came from behind to beat St. Mary's from Taita Taveta County 2-1, completing a perfect start and moving to six points at the top of Group A.

"We are very happy because the boys have worked hard for these wins. We are also enjoying the home advantage, and we hope to do even better in the semi-finals," said Waa coach Mara.

Khadija recovered from the opening defeat to beat Witu Secondary from Lamu County 3-0 after St. Mary's had defeated Witu 3-1 in their first match.

In Group B, Kilifi County's Rabai Secondary endured a difficult campaign, losing both of their matches by an aggregate score of 8-0 to Tononoka of Mombasa and Hola Boys of Tana River County.

Another Kwale County representative, Kaya Tiwi, was held to a 1-1 draw by Hola Boys. Their second match against Tononoka was abandoned in the second half after the referee disallowed a Tononoka goal, prompting the match to be called off.

In the girls' category, Kwale's former champions, Mwanambeyu Girls, collected four points from their opening two matches, recording a 2-0 victory over Minhaj from Tana River County before playing out a goalless draw against Kaya Tiwi.

In boys' volleyball, Kwale's Mwaluphamba dominated Mpeketoni from Lamu County, winning in straight sets of 25-14, 25-15 and 27-25. Meanwhile, Taru Boys lost 3-1 to Hola of Tana River County, with set scores of 24-26, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-25.

"We used our court coverage as our main weapon against Taru and capitalised on their weaknesses to claim the important win, which puts us in a good position going forward," said Hola Boys coach Omar Galana.

The group-stage matches will conclude on Friday before the finals are played on Saturday. The winners will qualify to represent the Coast Region at the national championships in Kiambu County.
