Kasighau residents in Voi Sub County on Thursday demonstrated against the county government’s land officials who they accused of colluding with few individuals to grab four ranches belonging to the community.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the residents claimed that the local leadership including the area chief, the MCA, the senator and the governor’s office are colluding with the alleged grabbers.

The residents noted that the ranches have belonged to the community since independence, and wondered why the county government’s land officials are colluding with the few individuals who want to turn the ranches into private entities.

Zome Council of Elders at Kasighau has taken up the matter and it plans to call the leaders in the area to discuss land ownership in the area.

The residents claimed that Mbale, Maungu, Amaka and Rukinga ranches could be grabbed if the county government does not listen to them, adding that they will be careful this time when electing their leaders.
