Queens interim coach Charles Okere has urged his side to be more focused
against Tanzania giants JKT Queens when both sides lock horns on Wednesday from
4PM in their second match of the 2023 Caf Women's Champions League Qualiffers
at the MTN stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
The four
times Kenya Women Premier League champions opened their campaign for the title
in high note hunmering their Zanzibar counterparts New Generation 3-1 in the
first match on Sunday staged at Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
"I'm
urging my charges to stay focused ahead of the match as we look to win it and
improve our chances of qualifying for the elimination stage.
"Our aim is
win all the group matches something we can easily achieve if we maintain the
momentum. We noted couple of mistakes from our first game more so in the
goalkeeping and defence departments but we have rectified that and we are
optimistic enough of doing wonders later today"
Okere who
joined the side a fortnight ago to assist coach Bonface Nyamunyamuh, however
said their Sunday win motivated the girls going to today's showpiece.
"The
win against New Generations was a nice one. It really motivated the charges
having defeated them twice so far including the inaugural edition held in
Nairobi in 2021. That's enough is a big statement that we are leaving no stone
unturned. Today's match is a must win."
Early kick
off match will see other group B competitors JKT from Tanzania entertaining
their neighbours New Generations (Zanzibar) from 1PM at the same venue Philip
Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
In second
fixtures of group A yesterday Burundi representatives Buja Queens redeemed
themselves after first match set back by thrashing hosts Kampala Queens 2-1 as
Central Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) continued with their good run, beating Djibouti
champions FAD 8-0.

Queens are seeking a second qualification into the Women’s CAF Champions
League, after playing in the inaugural edition held in Egypt 2021.
Kenya was
not represented in last year's tournament - second edition held in Morocco - as
the country was still under FIFA suspension from international football due to
government interference.
