Vihiga
Queens will look to complete a perfect group stage run when they face JKT
Queens in their third and final group game at the 2023 Caf Women's Champions
League qualifiers.
Both teams are
already through to the semis having won both their opening two fixtures and the
winner on Saturday will advance as Pool B leaders.
Vihiga
Queens interim coach Charles Okere is optimistic that they will overcome their
Tanzanian rivals.
“I want to
congratulate my girls for always utilizing what I tell them during training.
Going to JKT match we are looking forward for a win despite our opponents being
a tough side with speedy attack.
“I have
followed their previous matches keenly and I have noted their weakness side
which we will capitalize on,” Okere said.
Other Group
B matches on Saturday will see Zanzibar representative New Generations taking
on AS Kigali of Rwanda in a dead rubber match being that both teams have
already being bundled out.
Last group
matches for group A will witness FAD
(Djibouti) tackling Yei Joint Stars from South Sudan while the hosts Kampala
Queens will lock horns with Ethiopia heavyweights CBE.
This is the
second time Vihiga are reaching the semis in this competition having also done
so in 2021 where they went on to win the maiden championship.
The
four-time Kenyan champions are seeking a second qualification into the Women’s
CAF Champions League, after playing in the inaugural edition held in Egypt
2021.
Kenya was
not represented in last year's tournament - second edition held in Morocco - as
the country was still under FIFA suspension from international football due to
government interference.
Top two
teams from each group will advance to the semifinals spot with the winner
representing CECAFA region in the final tournament later this year in Ivory
Coast.
