A man of many firsts, Nabwera leaves behind a pioneering legacy in both international relations and national politics.
Following Kenya's independence, he served as the nation's first Permanent Representative to the United Nations from December 1963 to September 1970, concurrently becoming Kenya’s first Ambassador to the United States.
Upon returning to domestic governance, Nabwera assumed significant roles within the national political landscape.
During the administration of the late former President Daniel Arap Moi, he served as Minister of State in the Office of the President and held the influence-heavy position of Secretary-General for the then-ruling party, the Kenya African National Union (KANU).
In elective politics, Nabwera etched his name in local history in 1988 by becoming the first Member of Parliament for the newly created Lugari Constituency, representing the area in the National Assembly.
Leaders across the country have paid tribute to the late veteran.
Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya commended Nabwera's lifelong dedication to the country.
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Ambassador Mzee Burudi Nabwera, a distinguished leader and diplomat who served our nation with dedication and honour,” Oparanya noted.
“His contribution to Kenya’s diplomatic relations, governance, and national development will remain etched in our history.”
