Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee on Wednesday told clubs to be ready to shoulder their financial obligations, adding only a small boost should be expected from them.

Ali Amour, a member of the committee who is also in charge of leagues and competitions further challenged club officials to ensure they meet criteria of the CAF/FKF club licensing.

According to Amour, a club that would fail to run its affairs in such a time of transition would be simply exposing weak structures, including failure to meet the licensing criteria.

“It should be understood that we are just helping clubs because we have seen most of them are struggling, but it is not mandatory. When running a club, you need to meet the club licensing criteria, which includes financial accountability and ability. FIFA requires this, so clubs should be able to finance their operations,” said Amour.

This comes just days after Mathare United Chairman Bob Munro wrote to the Committee warning the Premier League was headed to a halt, as half of teams are struggling to meet their basic financial demands.

Anthony Isayi, in charge Committee’s funds, at the same time confirmed the Sh. 300,000 they promised to clubs has been disbursed, promising to pay a section referees who are yet to be receive their dues.

“The entire Premier League clubs both men and women, have received the Sh. 300,000 and the National Super League (NSL) clubs will also receive Sh.250, 000, which we have already wired.

“We have paid all the referees who have been officiating in the KPL and we are currently working on paying the NSL ones. By Friday or Monday all the referees will have received their dues,” Isayi said.

However, Vihiga Queens Chief Executive Officer Michael Senelwa has clarified they have not received the money yet.

“They are giving the funds. The Committee had promised all the WPL clubs, and although we are yet to see it, we are optimistic soon we will have it,” Senelwa told.

Meanwhile, the women’s FKF Division One League will commence on January 8, while the Division One for men will kick off on January 22.

Second Division for men will commence upon a meeting with the Division Two club officials and all the clusters to agree on the modalities of running the league. The date for the meeting is however not yet set.
