Speaking at the burial ceremony of Kilifi North Owen Baya’s mother Dorothy Baya Mweri, on Sunday, Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli claimed that utterances by Uhuru were driving hatred among Kenyans and called on him to retire in peace.
Atwoli said that Uhuru was not in any way helping the United opposition in crafting an election road map and that Ruto will be reelected with a landslide.
“There is no opposition in Kenya at the moment, and the former President Uhuru Kenyatta should stop inciting Kenyans along tribal lines. He should remember that he is lazy and he was made president by Ruto, and he also failed to make Raila Odinga president when he still had power; he should retire,” said Atwoli.
President William Ruto’s aide Farouq Kibet, on his part, said that tribal politics will not be allowed in the country and that religious leaders should not allow such politicians to take their politics to the church.
“I urge the clergy to deny airtime to leaders who incite Kenyans on tribal lines, and you can’t be a former president and incite a community,” he said.
Also present during the burial were Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, his National Assembly counterpart Moses Wetangula, Governor Gideon Mung’aro of Kilifi and his Mombasa counterpart Abdulswamad and Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacobs and other leaders.
