Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has pledged a Ksh.2 million donation to Kenya Red Cross Society to support those affected by the floods that continue to wreak havoc and claim lives across the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, Uhuru said that the money will provide relief and essential aid to the flood victims. He further extended his thoughts and prayers to the flood victims, calling on Kenyans to stand in solidarity with them.

"The relentless rainfall has caused significant damage, displacing families, destroying infrastructure, and claiming precious lives. During this time of profound loss and despair, my thoughts and prayers are with the affected communities as they cope with the aftermath of this natural disaster, said the former Head of State.

“As a nation, we must stand together in the face of adversity, demonstrating compassion, resilience, and solidarity with one another,” he noted.

Uhuru also urged Kenyans to exercise caution by avoiding flood-prone areas and relocating to higher grounds during the disaster.

He went on to call on healthcare providers to tend to the injured flood victims amid their ongoing strike, stressing that they address their demands through dialogue.

"Together, let us navigate through these difficult times, emerging stronger, more resilient, and more united than ever before, said Uhuru.

The Former President’s statement comes in the wake of various flooding incidences including the Mai Mahiu tragedy that has so far claimed 71 lives. Flash floods occurred after a water body in Kijabe broke its banks.

Additionally, in a separate incident in Tana River, a boat capsized between Madogo and Garissa, claiming seven lives.
