Uhuru is shooting himself in the foot over Raila's 2022 win; MP Kitany says

According to the MP, Uhuru Kenyatta was a product and result of the electoral system established under the 2010 constitution and therefore should not question the High Court's decision on the outcome of the 2022 presidential polls.

‘’Looking back to history when the post-election violence happened, and the new constitution was birthed and first implemented in 2010, Uhuru was the first president to be elected under the new constitution in 2013, the opposition went to court, and the court said he won fairly,’’ Maryanne said on Thursday, appearing on Citizen TV.

Mr. Kenyatta, during a Jubilee Party meeting on  Tuesday, cast doubt on the legitimacy of President William Ruto's victory in 2022, claiming the late Raila Odinga won.

MP Kitany disputed the claim, arguing that Mr Kenyatta is disputing the decision of a court that ruled in his favour during the 2017 election, where he won against the late Odinga.

She maintains that President Ruto's victory was legitimate and he had the biggest number of supporters who catapulted him to power.

‘’Elections were not won based on the number of Members of Parliament who came in parliament. William Ruto won because of numbers.’’ she said.

‘’If you think Raila won because of numbers, he did not, because for instance in Nairobi there are only seventeen constituencies, to mean there will be seventeen members of parliament, but the number of voters in Nairobi are more than a county like Kakamega where there are twelve constituencies with few voters."

Mr Kenyatta said he is certain that Mr Odinga won the 2022 polls, hinting at a scheme to bungle the outcome that secured President Ruto's win.

"Tulifanya kila kitu kumsaidia Baba awe Rais wa Jamhuri yetu ya Kenya. Na kura akapata, na mimi mpaka wa leo najua ya kwamba yeye ndiye alishinda hiyo kura. Tunajua vile mambo ilienda, na hatutaki iende hivyo tena," he said.

Mr Kenyatta argued that the late Odinga, under the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party, won a majority of elective seats in the National Assembly and the Senate, questioning how they still lost the presidency.
