President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as a Special Envoy to the Republic of South Sudan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement to newsrooms on Tuesday, termed the former Vice President’s appointment as a furtherance of Kenya’s commitment towards shared prosperity in the region.

Mr. Musyoka is now expected to steer the country’s pursuit of lasting peace and security in South Sudan “through the acceleration of the implementation of the Recitalized-Agreement on Conflict Resolution in South Sudan (R-AGROSS), in particular.”

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulates Hon. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka on his appointment and stands ready to support the Special Envoy in the delivery of his mandate,” read the statement.

Mr. Musyoka’s appointment follows a two-day State Visit to Kenya by South Sudan President Salva Kiir.
