Two suspects have been arrested in possession of 154 kilograms of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Ksh.4.62 million following a dramatic police operation along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) intercepted a vehicle that was allegedly being used to transport the illegal consignment after receiving credible intelligence.

The DCI said officers had been tipped off that a motor vehicle registration number KDX 264K was ferrying narcotics and subsequently mounted an operation to intercept it.

"Acting on the information, detectives laid an ambush along the busy Eldoret–Nakuru Highway," the agency said.

However, when officers signalled the driver to stop, the motorist allegedly ignored the orders and sped off, triggering a high-speed chase towards the Subukia area.

The pursuit came to an end after detectives successfully immobilised the vehicle by deflating one of its front tyres, forcing it to stop.

Two suspects, identified as David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were arrested at the scene.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of seven sacks containing cannabis sativa weighing a total of 154 kilograms. Investigators believe the drugs had been carefully concealed for transportation.

The suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue ahead of their arraignment.

The recovered narcotics have been secured as exhibits.
