Two police officers suspected of links to the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu will remain in custody at Industrial Area Remand until October 27, when they are expected to take plea.

The suspects, Julius Kipkoech Cheruiyot and Kennedy Kipkemei Borboroi, face murder charges over the killing of Mbobu on September 9, 2025, along Magadi Road as he travelled towards Rongai.

The two are expected to appear in court alongside Rose Mbithe, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa to formally take plea.

The two officers are now at the centre of investigations into the killing of Mbobu.

Court proceedings have also raised questions over possible links between the murder of Mbobu and that of Dr. Victoria Mutiso, in which Mbithe is also an accused.

The two officers were ordered to undergo mental assessment at Mbagathi Hospital before their next court appearance.

“We'll take plea on 27th of October, right? So what we need is the wives provide toothbrushes, toothpaste, bar soap, that is what we use in prison, and probably some toilet paper and warm clothing, under clothes, all those ones we will allow you to provide. And then if you want to visit, you'll also be allowed to visit,” Justice Diana Kavedza said.

The judge directed that the suspects be held at Nairobi Remand and taken to Mbagathi Hospital for the assessment.

The defence had sought their detention at Muthangari Police Station, but the request was opposed, with the court stressing the need to balance the rights of the suspects with the demands of justice.

“How do I explain having Tala, having the bodyguard of the MP3 India and taking yours to a more special place not in this court, you will go to Nairobi River because I have a modus operandi. I always say that the scale of justice must balance. Justice must begin to be seen to be done,” Justice Kavedza said.

Seven suspects have been linked to the killing of Dr. Victoria Mutiso. Five, including Mbithe, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, are also facing murder charges in the Kyalo Mbobu case.

Mbithe has emerged as a central figure in both investigations, with the two cases involving separate murder charges against her.

Mbithe, Mulwa and Angela Mulwa have already appeared before the Milimani courts in the Victoria Mutiso murder case and are expected to be produced at the Kibra High Court on October 27 for plea taking in the Mbobu murder case.
