Two police officers among 4 arraigned over alleged Thika Superhighway crime syndicate

Two police officers and two civilians have been arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts following their arrest in Kasarani, exposing a dangerous criminal network operating along the Thika Superhighway.

Detectives say the suspects are part of a wider syndicate targeting members of the public along the Thika Superhighway, Kasarani, Kahawa and Githurai estates.

The four suspects were intercepted by detectives on Tuesday after extorting Ksh.15,000 from a member of the public.

During their arraignment, investigators revealed that two of the men are interdicted police constables; Silas Onyango Okello, suspended from Kahawa Sukari Police Station, and Oliver Juma Boge, suspended from the Railways Police Station.

They were arraigned alongside their alleged accomplices, Stephen Okello Ombewa and Job Sindiga Munibi.

Detectives say before their arrest, the gang had been masquerading as active officers, using a grey Toyota Allion to kidnap, extort and rob unsuspecting citizens.

Investigators have linked the rogue syndicate to a wave of violent crimes across Nairobi and Central regions, including reported cases in Mwihoko, Thika, Kahawa Sukari and Githurai Mwiki.

Detectives at Ruiru Police Station have linked the syndicate to a gang targeting bank customers.

CCTV footage recently captured a gang tracking a man from a local bank to a petrol station in Kahawa Sukari.

The thieves used a specialised tool to smash his car window, escaping with over Ksh.100,000 and leaving the man in agony.

Police believe the thieves, operating in broad daylight, do so with the precision of someone who has served in the police service.

They are urging members of the public with information regarding the crime incidents to come forward.
