Two people were shot dead and two houses torched after a raid by suspected bandits in Taa village, Pandaguo area, Lamu County.

According to Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia, 8 bandits attacked the area at around 8pm on Sunday night clothed in army uniforms, randomly opening fire.

Two people were killed in the crossfire and the bandits later torched two houses belonging to National Police Reservists (NPR) before taking flight.

The number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, however 10 people have been reported missing.

Commissioner Irungu believes that the bandits are from the neighboring communities and not Al-shabaab militants as had earlier been suspected.

He argues that the distance from the Kenya-Somalia border to the area is reasonably long (1000 km), making it logistically impossible for the bandits to flee on time.

Meanwhile, police authorities have arrived in the area as further investigations are underway.
