Two KRA officials arrested for demanding Ksh.3M bribe

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested two Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) employees over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe in connection with a tax matter.
The suspects, Faith Gathoni
Njoroge and Tyson Marango Owuor, both attached to KRA's Upper Hill offices,
were arrested on Monday following a complaint by a taxpayer.
According to the Commission, the two allegedly demanded Ksh.3 million in exchange for influencing the resolution of a Capital Gains Tax assessment amounting to Ksh.4.5 million.
The anti-graft agency stated that it launched an operation after receiving the complaint and allegedly caught the two officials receiving Ksh.900,000, being part payment of the demanded bribe.
EACC said the Ksh.900,000 was recovered during the operation
before the suspects were arrested.
The two were processed at the Integrity Centre pending arraignment.
