Two people have died after the driver of a cargo lorry lost control and rammed a stalled vehicle along the busy Nairobi–Naivasha highway on Friday afternoon.

The two victims, both mechanics, died on the spot. Rescuers had to use a breakdown crane to lift the heavy lorry and recover the remains of one of the victims, who was trapped underneath.

Two others, the pickup driver and a passenger in the lorry, survived with serious injuries and are receiving treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have since been moved to the Naivasha Hospital mortuary.

The crash has renewed calls from locals for the immediate expansion of the notorious Kinungi stretch, amid concerns over the continued loss of lives along the busy highway.
