Two killed after bus carrying mourners crashes along Muhoroni-Londiani road

According to a police report, the accident happened at around 4:50 a.m. at the tunnel area, about seven kilometres east of Fort Ternan, when a Mercedes bus registration number KDH 181Y, veered off the road and rolled once.

The bus, belonging to Kupa Kenya Hearse Services, was heading towards Muhoroni carrying mourners escorting the body of the late Jayden Kamau.

Police say the driver, identified as Emmanuel Osembo, 33, lost physical control of the vehicle, which then veered off to the left in the direction of Muhoroni.

Two people died in the crash. They have been named as Mathew Obiero, 36, and Margaret Areyo, 21.

Another 26 people were injured, with police reports indicating a range of injuries from cuts, bruises, and general body pains to chest and spinal injuries.

At least two of the injured were unconscious when the  police report was filed, while others sustained deep cuts to the head, a dislocated shoulder, and injuries to the limbs. Several children were among those hurt.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to St Vincent Morgue for preservation, identification, and postmortem examination.

Police say the scene was visited and the vehicle towed to the station, where it is being held pending inspection.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
