Two dead, several injured in accident along Meru-Nanyuki highway

Two people were killed and several others injured following an accident involving a matatu and a private car at Subuiga along Meru-Nanyuki highway on Wednesday evening.

According to area residents, the private car driver was attempting to overtake when he rammed into the matatu in a head-on-collision. The two deceased persons were both occupants of the private car.

Meru County Police Commander David Kirui, who visited the scene, said accidents were increasingly becoming rampant on the road and that a preventive measure had to be looked into.

He stated that the stretch of road is very narrow, has sharp corners and no speed bumps, further urging officers manning the road to be cautious.

The injured persons were taken to Meru Level 5 Hospital.
