Two arrested over suspected phone hacking racket in Kisumu

The two identified as John Odhiambo Oluoch and Samwel George Ouma, were arrested at a shop within Tivoli Centre in Kisumu City’s Central Business District (CBD) during an operation conducted by DCI detectives from Kisumu Central, in collaboration with fraud investigators from Mogo Auto Ltd.

Detectives recovered mobile phones, laptops, and phone accessories, with their motherboards removed and other equipment suspected to have been used in dismantling the devices.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the two are allegedly involved in hacking stolen mobile phones and replacing their motherboards.

The items have now been secured for forensic analysis to establish their ownership, origins and to determine how they came into the suspects’ possession.

Meanwhile, the suspects remain in police custody pending arraignment as detectives continue with investigations into the suspected scheme.
