Two suspects captured on CCTV breaking into a parked vehicle near a hotel in Ngurubani town, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, have been arrested in Ruiru.

Detectives in Mwea East Sub-County identified the suspects as Vincent Juma Ranguma and Rosalid Wangari Mwihaki. Wang'uru Law Court has granted police seven days to detain them at Wang'uru Police Station as investigations continue.

According to detectives, the suspects admitted to being part of a group of five that broke into the vehicle and stole KSh 70,000, a laptop and a power bank.

CCTV footage from the hotel shows Ranguma unlocking a parked Toyota Prado as Mwihaki keeps watch. A second vehicle, believed to have been used by the suspects, is seen parked nearby, with its driver also checking the surroundings.

The suspects are then seen leaving the premises in their vehicle after the theft.

The pair had been sought by police, with the hotel owner, Charles Njiru Mkombozi, offering a Ksh.100,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

Mkombozi welcomed the arrests but said he hoped the remaining three suspects would also be apprehended.

“I have been looking forward to seeing these suspects, and I am happy I can now see the faces I saw on the CCTV cameras. But I hope to see the other three as investigations continue,” he said.

Detectives said the suspects and their alleged accomplices were also being investigated over similar thefts from locked motor vehicles reported at Meru Police Station, Obama Police Station in Kayole, Nairobi, and Makongeni Police Station in Thika West, Kiambu County.

In one of the cases reported in Meru, detectives said the group stole Ksh.600,000 from a black Toyota Fielder on October 8, 2026.

Investigations into the incidents are ongoing as police pursue the remaining suspects.
