Residents of Kiandegwa village in Mwea West, Kirinyaga County, are demanding the arrest of a man accused of threatening 12-year-old twin boys who later disappeared under unclear circumstances.

The twins went missing on Sunday, but their disappearance was not reported immediately.

Their mother, Naomi Muthoni, says she has not slept since and only reported earlier threats after realising her children were gone.

According to Muthoni, the suspect had accused the boys of damaging a television set allegedly used for a gambling business and demanded KSh 30,000 in compensation.

“He threatened me over the money, but I did not report it at the time. I only went to the police after my two children went missing on Sunday,” she said.

Angry residents, led by local community member Nicasio Murage Nderi, have accused police of negligence and favouritism, alleging that the suspect has ties to an officer at Kiandegwa Police Station.

Mwea West Sub-County Police Commander Millicent Ngugi confirmed that investigations are underway, even as residents vowed to continue searching for the missing twins until they are found and the suspect is brought to justice.
