Tusker's Mette hails Tusker's Super Cup win over Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia pushed for a second-half comeback but failed to breach Tusker's defensive line, earning praise from Mette for his team’s discipline and game management.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, the French tactician noted the victory provides a major morale boost ahead of their FKF Premier League and CAF Confederation Cup campaigns.

“It’s a great start. This was a competitive match against the league champions and CECAFA Kagame Cup finalists—not a friendly. We scored three quality goals and handled their pressure well. Tactically, technically, and mentally, it was a strong performance,” Mette said. “It gave us a clear benchmark before the league and continental preliminary fixtures.”

Mette also highlighted the seamless integration of his nine new signings following a summer squad overhaul.

The new arrivals feature returning defender Aboud Omar—who assumes the captaincy—alongside Nigerian striker Victor Mbaoma (Remo Stars), Ivorian winger Aboubacar Doumbia (Al Orobah), and Gambian forward Abdoulie Joof.

Tusker open their domestic league campaign away against Ulinzi Stars before shifting focus to the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round against Sudan's Al Ahli Madani, with the first leg set for early September in Nairobi.
