Business owners in Lodwar Town, Turkana County, are counting losses worth millions of shillings after a fierce night fire destroyed several business premises along Africana Street in the central business district.

According to witnesses, the fire is believed to have started in a salon before rapidly spreading to neighbouring shops, engulfing multiple business establishments within a short period.

The blaze destroyed property and merchandise, leaving affected traders scrambling to assess the extent of the damage.

The incident has reignited concerns over the county's disaster preparedness, with residents calling for urgent investment in firefighting equipment and emergency response services to prevent similar losses in the future.

There were no casualties reported; however, traders affected by the inferno are appealing for support as they begin assessing the damage and planning recovery efforts.

Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire.
