If you have travelled to Kitale, you might have spotted some grass-thatched units along the road just before you get to Soy town.

Welcome to the travelers’ haven. There is more to what meets the eye, quite literally.

These roadside hotels might not be your regular five-, four-, or three-star joints, but the tasty chicken served with steaming hot ugali is out of this world.

“I use this route nearly every two weeks. This is my spot any time I am around,” Mohammed Bilal, a long-haul truck driver said.

Road trip enthusiasts frequent these spots just for a bite of ‘kienyeji’ chicken, a tasty delicacy that is by far incomparable to the fast-food joints’ servings.

“No, you cannot compare this to what we get in the city. This is authentic chicken,” Amos Kemboi, a resident of Eldoret noted.

With a beautiful surrounding, the evergreen environment completes the picture of what can easily pass as a travelers’ haven.

“The food here reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking. Less additives, ugali made with unga from the posho mill and served in the good old aluminium plates,” Jacob Wafula, a customer, added.

Stage Two kuku joints has several huts, each with its unique name. For instance, one is named Mt. Everest, and right next to it is the Garden of Eden.

Holiday-makers and students also frequent the spot, whose lean staff is known for quick turnaround.

“Given the affordability of the food here, we get value for money. We often give tips because the serving is quite modest,” another customer quipped.

So next time you hit the road and find yourself in this area, make a stop for a tasty meal!
