Transport tribunal reinstates suspension of Super Metro Sacco operations

"In the interim, pending compliance with the respondent's directive dated 18th March 2025, the suspension of the appellant's operations is hereby reinstated," the tribunal's order states.

The decision follows a hearing in which the tribunal revealed that 269 Super Metro drivers were found to be unqualified, while 42 others had been flagged for repeated overspeeding violations.

As part of the directive, all affected drivers are to be presented at the Likoni Driver Testing Centre for mandatory retesting. Furthermore, 31 vehicles identified with compliance inspection issues must be taken to a designated inspection centre for evaluation.

Tribunal Chairman Adrian Kamotho emphasized the importance of upholding stringent safety and qualification standards across public transport operators.

“Public safety is paramount,” Kamotho stated, stressing the need for strict adherence to speed regulations and immediate corrective measures.

He also criticized Super Metro for failing to provide proof that its drivers had received adequate training in road safety, customer service, and proper conduct while interacting with other road users.

The tribunal affirmed that the suspension will remain in effect until Super Metro demonstrates full compliance with all directives, backed by verifiable evidence.

The matter is set for mention on 17 April 2025, when the tribunal will review compliance and determine the next course of action.
