The institute will provide specialised training in digital technologies and artificial intelligence, while helping public institutions embrace innovation and improve service delivery.
Kenya School of Government Director General Professor Nura Mohammed says the establishment of the institute comes at a time when digital platforms, data and artificial intelligence are increasingly influencing the delivery of government services.
He says the institute consolidates the school’s efforts in e-learning, information technology and digital transformation, while strengthening its capacity to offer training, conduct research and provide consultancy and advisory services.
The launch also coincided with the graduation of the first cohort of the KSG DigiKen programme, implemented through the UNESCO-Oxford Massive Open Online Course on Digital Transformation and AI in Government.
The programme attracted 2,730 public officers and other learners from both the public and private sectors, of whom 1,239 successfully completed the course.
The institute will also collaborate with public institutions to identify emerging skills gaps and design practical training programmes aimed at accelerating digital transformation across the public service.
