A search operation is underway after a fisherman who drowned in Lake Victoria.
The incident happened at Sangorota beach in Nyakach, Kisumu County.
The 43-year-old fisherman was on a fishing expedition with his colleague.
Tragedy struck when the fisherman fell asleep and accidentally fell inside the water.
His colleague said initial efforts to rescue him were futile, as the raging waters swept his colleague away.
Efforts to recover the fisherman’s body were futile Monday night, with the exercise set to resume.
The Beach Management Unit Chairman Francis Orao said local fishermen and officials from Kenya Coast Guard services have joined in the search.
He at the same time called on fishermen to adhere to the guidelines issued by the management, calling on them to use life jackets.
