Toroitich wins Amsterdam Marathon with fourth fastest time in 2025

Kenya’s Geoffrey Kipchumba Toroitich stormed to victory at the 50th TCS Amsterdam Marathon, setting a new course record of 2:03:30 in just his second marathon.

Defending champion Tsegaye Getachew of Ethiopia finished second in 2:04:18, narrowly ahead of compatriot Getaneh Molla by one second.

Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay came fourth in 2:04:36, while Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei improved his personal best to 2:04:52 in fifth.

In the women’s race, Ethiopia dominated with Aynalem Desta winning in 2:17:37, followed by Bertukan Welde (2:17:56) and Mekides Shimeles (2:19:56).

In Canada, Kenya again made headlines at the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon, sweeping the men’s podium.

Leonard Langat led a 1-2-3 finish for Kenya in 2:08:04, followed by Noah Kipkemboi (2:08:28) and Sila Kiptoo (2:08:44).

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Shure Demise claimed her third Toronto title in 2:21:03, just 20 seconds shy of the course record. Kenya’s Betty Chepkorir came second in 2:23:45, with Almaz Kebebe of Ethiopia third in 2:26:40.

Cynthia Chemweno and Beatrice Cheserek completed the top five, both for Kenya.

In Italy, Kenyans ruled the Rome Half Marathon, sweeping the podium in the men’s race.

Simon Maiywa took top honors in 59:44, edging Vincent Kimaiyo (59:45) and Kalipus Lomwai (59:56).

The women’s race was also a Kenyan affair, with Regina Koech (1:08:26), Millicent Jelimo (1:08:37), and Gladys Cherop (1:09:22) leading a top-five sweep.

In Japan, Rebecca Mwangi led a Kenyan 1-2 finish at the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon, winning in 1:08:46 ahead of Janet Nyiva (1:09:09). Ethiopia’s Meskerem Mamo was third in 1:10:58.

The winning continued in Spain, where Purity Kajuju Gitonga won the Bilbao Night Half Marathon in 1:10:45, leading a Kenyan 1-2 ahead of Stella Chebet Mateiko.

In Italy’s Neapolis Marathon, Gilbert Masai took the top spot in 2:14:52, while Vivian Jelagat won the women’s race in 2:43:35.

At the Neapolis Half Marathon, Simon Ekidor claimed victory in 1:04:45 to close another strong weekend for Kenyan road runners around the world.
