Top girl in KCPE cautions her peers against premarital sex

A top performer in 2018 KCPE from Thika Sub-County, Kiambu County has cautioned her peers against premarital sex.

Terry Waithera, who scored 443 marks out of the possible 500 marks, urged her age-mates to protect their future by shunning sexual predators, who use money and material possessions to lure the young girls into sex.

Waithera, who sat KCPE exam at Bishop Ngoima Memorial School in Makongeni, Thika, urged underage girls, who are already mothers, not to lose hope in life.

Waithera told the young mothers that they can still get another chance to further their education.

Waithera’s remarks come on the back of increased early pregnancy cases reported across Kenya.

A debate has been brewing – both online and offline – whether sex education should be introduced to basic education schools.

According to Bishop Ngoima Memorial School chaplain, Rev. Peter Githiora, the lack of adequate Bible teachings and Christian values have led to the increased numbers of teenage pregnancies.

Githiora advised sex education be introduced in schools, though the Ministry of Education should come up with clear guidelines on the age limit of students undertaking the course; and how the knowledge would be dispensed.
