Title race: Mombasa United shift focus to crucial 3K FC clash

After securing a hard-fought 1-0 away victory against Mwatate United in Taita Taveta County, Mombasa United have now turned their attention to a decisive National Super League showdown against 3K FC.

The coastal side, currently sitting second on the NSL table with 71 points — level with league leaders Migori Youth — will host third-placed 3K FC, who trail closely with 69 points, in a high-stakes encounter set for Wednesday afternoon at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa.

With the title race entering its final stretch, Mombasa United know that only victory will keep their championship dream alive and ease the growing pressure among the league’s top three contenders.

Head coach Peter Okidi believes his squad is finally developing the chemistry they have been searching for all season.

“After Sunday’s win, our focus now is on the 3K encounter. It’s a different team and we have to approach it differently. We only need maximum points and we will fight for them to reduce the pressure among the top three and climb to the summit of the league,” said coach Okidi.

Okidi also praised his players for their discipline and determination during the vital away win over Mwatate United.

The only goal of the match came in the first half through Clinton Odiwuor, whose strike handed the visitors all three points.

“We played well, according to plan, against Mwatate, but in the second half we had to sit back and soak up the pressure since they started launching long balls,” Okidi explained.

“Mwatate has experienced players and I can commend my players for staying firm and making sure we collect maximum points away,” he added.

Elsewhere in the NSL, league leaders Migori Youth will be at home against MCF, who are still battling to escape the relegation zone.
