Three suspected robbers were killed and their bodies set ablaze in Machakos town after they were caught allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle belonging to a miraa trader.

Confirming the early morning incident, Machakos Town Chief John Musembi Kisalu said the three suspects had posed as passengers before turning on the driver near the Machakos County Government workers’ offices.

The chief said the suspects attacked the driver with machetes, but the driver managed to escape while screaming for help.

Residents who were nearby responded quickly and found the suspects allegedly trying to flee with the vehicle.

The mob descended on them, beating the three to death before setting their bodies on fire in a grim scene that drew large crowds.

Police later collected the remains and moved them to the Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary as investigations into the incident began.
