A court in Bomet has handed 35-year prison terms to three men found guilty of gang-raping a woman in Chepalungu sub-county two years ago.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Esther Booke, Carlos Sigei, his brothers Weldon Sigei and Anderson Sigei, were convicted of gang rape contrary to Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act, 2006.

The trio was arrested in December 2023 after a video of the assault circulated widely online, sparking public outrage.

In her judgment, Magistrate Booke described the offence as grave and deeply traumatizing, adding that the circulation of the video further stigmatized the victim and intensified her suffering.
