Three Kenyans through to 1500m semis in Tokyo

Kenya's campaign at the World Championships received a much-needed boost after its three stars progressed to the next round of the 1500m. World and Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, Susan Ejore, and Nelly Chepchirchir displayed strong performances on the track.

Faith Kipyegon clocked 4:02.55, finishing 6th in her heat but advancing based on time. Susan Lokayo Ejore impressed with 4:01.99, taking third in her heat to secure automatic qualification.

Nelly Chepchirchir, despite finishing outside the top slots in her heat, managed 4:07.01, which was enough to carry her through to the semis on time qualification.

This progress comes just hours after the heartbreak of Kenya's disqualification from the 4x400m relay due to a lane infringement — a moment that shocked fans. But with three women now eyeing a spot in the 1500m final, Team Kenya’s medal hopes are alive again.

All eyes now turn to the 1500m semi-finals, where Faith Kipyegon is expected to lead the charge for Kenya and possibly defend her world title.

Other top names advancing include Canada's Gabriela DeBues-Stafford, Ireland’s Sophie O’Sullivan and France’s Agathe Guillemot.
