Three die in separate drowning incidents in Kirinyaga as rivers swell

Three men have died after drowning in separate incidents in Kirinyaga County over the past three days, police and residents have said.
Two of the victims drowned in different sections of River Thiba in Gichugu Constituency, with one incident reported in the Kagongoini area and another in Rukenya.
Police said one of the victims is suspected to have been riding a motorcycle when he attempted to cross the swollen river but was overwhelmed by the strong currents and swept away.
A search involving local residents was launched, leading to the recovery of the two bodies.
In another incident, residents in Murinduko area in Mwea said a man may have been swept away by River Kiie, with his body recovered early Sunday morning.
The bodies were moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary, where they are awaiting postmortem examinations.
