A new mall was on Friday opened in Kilimani, to add to the increasing number of shopping malls in Kenya, and especially in urban areas.

The Circle Mall was launched in a ceremony attended by some of the top treasury officials, among them Treasury PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo and Central Bank Deputy Governor Susan Koech.

Speaking to business persons who were in attendance, Kiptoo said the facility signals the growth in the country’s economy, adding that the Kenya Kwanza administration has managed to bring down inflation from 9.6% to 5%.

“We are now sitting on a Ksh. 16 trillion economy in terms of our country’s GDP. If you look at the consumer price index, that has come with a decline in petroleum prices and food prices. And so, the cost of living at least has gone down,” Kiptoo said.

He added that centres like The Circle Mall will be a huge addition to the growing business environment in Kenya, at the same time affirming the government’s push to increase taxes to be self-reliant.

“Today there is investor confidence after derisking the Eurobond to bring down the deficit. I urge you to believe in our country. I urge you to work hard so that we expand the cake. The more the cake, the better for us,” PS Kiptoo asserted.

The mall’s proprietor Pius Chelimo shared his journey towards developing the facility, as he

thanked the Nairobi County government for the approvals and guidance through the construction process.

“There were a lot of challenges while we were doing the construction, and I became very economical with telling people about this project. I want to challenge ourselves that sometimes let’s not live with the fear. Once you think of doing something, do it,” Chelimo said.

The Circle Mall CEO Selina Kandie said 80% of the spaces in the mall have already been booked, adding that they look forward to filling up the remaining 20% after the grand launch.

Kandie introduced some of the tenants who have already occupied the mall.

“We look towards good times and great connections, and we encourage a circle of friends,” she remarked.

The Circle Mall is located along Timau Road, off Argwings Kodhek Road. It comprises, among others, three storeys, rental spaces, kids' play area, parking within the mall and conference and dining areas.
